Teaching and thinking critically in the era of Global English

When we teach English, what are we also teaching? In the past high culture and literature were seen as inseperable from language teaching, but with the rise of English as a world language we seem to have dropped these in favour of a kind of light, popular, mass consumer culture. In this talk I look at alternative sources of content that are more educational and also encourage critical thinking. This content includes classic and modern literature as well as information about the phenomenal rise of English as a global language.

Studying outside the classroom:
21st century solutions

First came the workbook, then the CDROM, then the DVDROM, then the course website. How can self-study components best be exploited to cater to today's increasingly digital learners and promote learning outside the classroom? I'll argue that we need a solution that is attractive, simple to use and above all flexible. The solution could be an e-workbook, containing interactive and multimedia material, printable resources and files you can put on any mobile device such as a phone. We will look at examples of how such a component could work, both outside and inside the classroom.

Učíme malé děti anglicky

Seminář je určen pro učitele angličtiny základních škol, kteří vyučují děti od 1. nebo 3. třídy. Účastníci se seznámí se základními principy výuky nejmenších dětí, se způsobem, jakým si malé děti osvojují cizí jazyk, a s kritérii, která musí zohlednit při výběru nejvhodnější učebnice. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována výuce pomocí příběhů (story-based approach). Seminář je veden v češtině.

Učíme malé děti anglicky - 120 min (bez akreditace)
Angličtina na 1. stupni ZŠ - 180 min (s akreditací MŠMT - účastníci obdrží osvědčení)
